Values Partnerships and the faith community applaud New York City and our friends at MomsRising for their efforts in calling an end to all school suspensions for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grades!
Startling statistics show that over 50 percent of Black students and students with disabilities are four times more likely to be suspended in school. This practice does not create or provide a thriving school environment, leaving no child behind, but rather sends a message of failure and defeat. Suspending kids grade K-2 promotes a school-to-prison pipeline for kids even at this young age.
MomsRising is committed to their continued advocacy for greater policy changes in school discipline and climate for New York City’s elementary school children, by ensuring all schools promote positive social-emotional development and a bright pathway to success!
